Zinc spray gun a wide range of methods in the thermal spray process used to apply zinc coating to metal and non-metal components mostly on steel including metalizing, galvanizing, zinc-rich paints, and electroplating.
A thermal spray gun to provide coating zinc wire or powder can be used individually or in combination with a paint topcoat for a coactive effect. To provide zinc coating over the substrate proper surface preparation is essential. For the proper surface preparation, the sand blasting machine process is used which provides a clean and roughened surface and upon which molten zinc sprayed for coating.
To provide a coating over the surface of the substrate either pure zinc or an alloy of zinc is used. In a thermal spray gun process to provide zinc wire or powder coating two methods of flame spray gun process and arc spray gun process are used.
Zinc wire or powder coating performs differently with the addition of different alloys, different climates, and also provides different coating thickness. Zinc wire or powder provides corrosion protection to steel in aggressive atmospheric conditions such as marine environments and exposed areas.
Zinc coating is thermally sprayed using either an arc or a flame process. In an electric arc process, two consumable zinc wire electrodes are uses which allow higher deposition rates with improved economy. For melting the zinc wire or powder opposite electric charges and are fed close together to maintain an electric arc. The molten material is sprayed onto the prepared surface of the substrate with compressed air to increase the velocity of sprayed material.
In the flame spray gun process zinc wire or powder is fed into an oxy-fuel flame, which melts the zinc wire or powder and then atomized by compressed air. Applications of zinc wire or powder and zinc alloy thermal sprayed coatings can be easily controlled to provide a thickness of 50 – 500 microns (.002” to .020”).
Zinc Spray Coating
Zinc, a naturally occurring, healthy, and abundant element, was first used in building in 79 AD. Zinc metal has several properties that make it an excellent corrosion-protective coating for iron and steel products. Zinc's excellent corrosion resistance in most environments explains its widespread use as a protective coating on a wide range of products and under a wide range of exposure conditions.
